Setting active hours in flows

Control when flow actions fire automatically by configuring active hours

Written by Trevor

Active hours let you control the daily window when your flow actions are allowed to fire automatically, so your clients never receive an automated message in the middle of the night.

What active hours do

Active hours are a workspace-wide setting that applies to all flows. By default, flows run at any time of day — the All day toggle is on. When you set a custom active hours window, any flow action that comes due outside that window is held and released automatically at the start of the next active period.

Active hours are a single workspace-wide setting. You cannot configure different windows for individual flows or individual actions.

Setting your active hours

The active hours control lives at the bottom of the Flows navigation pane. Its label changes based on whether a custom window is set: when flows run all day it shows Active all day, and when a window is configured it shows the times, for example Active 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

To set a custom window:

  1. Navigate to Flows in the left navigation.

  2. At the bottom of the Flows navigation pane, click Active all day (or the existing time range if one is already set). The Active Hours modal opens.

  3. Toggle All day off. The Start time and End time fields appear.

  4. Select a Start time using the dropdown. Times are available in 15-minute increments.

  5. Select an End time using the dropdown. Times are also in 15-minute increments.

  6. Click Save.

Once you've set a valid window, a blue confirmation reads "Flows will only run between [start] and [end]."

The start time must be earlier than the end time. Active hours cannot wrap past midnight — you cannot set a window like 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. If you pick an end time that is the same as or earlier than your start time, the modal shows "Start time must be before end time" and the Save button stays disabled until you correct the range.

To return to running flows around the clock, open the Active Hours modal, toggle All day back on, and click Save.

What active hours affect (and what they don't)

Active hours govern automatic flow actions only. The rest of the automated communications in your workspace send on their own schedule, independent of whatever active hours window you've configured.

Active hours apply to:

  • Automatic flow actions — any action that comes due outside the active window is held until the window opens again

Active hours do not apply to:

  • Scheduler reminders

  • Payment plan reminders

  • Form reminders

An action held by active hours shows the same blue "waiting due to a delay" segment you see on other delayed actions when tracking flow progress. This makes it easy to spot which actions are waiting for the next active window to open.

If you need a single action to fire outside your active hours window, you can use Force now on that action. You'll find the Force now control on any pending action in the flow builder — see managing your flows for details on using per-action controls.

FAQ

Can I set different active hours for weekdays and weekends?

No. Active hours use a single daily window that applies every day of the week. There is no separate weekday, weekend, or per-day configuration.

A flow action was due overnight — did it get skipped?

No, it wasn't skipped. Actions that come due outside your active hours window are held and fire automatically at the start of the next active period.

Why won't the modal let me save?

Your Start time is the same as or later than your End time. Active hours can't wrap past midnight, so the end time must fall later in the same day than the start time. The Save button re-enables once the range is valid.

Do active hours stop my scheduler or payment reminders from sending overnight?

No. Active hours only govern flow actions. Scheduler reminders, payment plan reminders, and form reminders send on their own schedule regardless of your active hours setting.
