The Xero payment account I want to connect is not showing up in the dropdown

If the Xero account you want is not appearing in the Payment account dropdown, fix one of two settings on the account in Xero.

When you're choosing a Payment account while connecting Xero, only certain Xero accounts are eligible to appear in the dropdown. If the account you want is missing, it's almost always because of one of two settings on the account in Xero, and here's how to fix both.


Where the payment account dropdown lives

You'll run into this while connecting your Xero account, under Invoice and payment syncing on the Xero details page (Settings ➔ Third party connections ➔ Xero). The Payment account dropdown there shows the placeholder text "Select a Xero payment account" until you choose one.

As part of the Xero integration, this dropdown pulls its list directly from Xero: Dubsado only shows the accounts that Xero returns as eligible. If an account doesn't meet Xero's requirements, it won't appear in the list, no matter what you do on the Dubsado side. The two requirements below cover the most common reasons an account is missing.


Solution 1: Ensure the account has a code

Accounts in Xero can have a unique account code of up to 10 characters. Only accounts with a code will appear as options when you're selecting a payment account in Dubsado.

  1. In Xero, go to Accounting ➔ Chart of accounts.

  2. Check whether the account you want has a code.

  3. If it doesn't, click the account to edit its details.

  4. Under Code, add a code.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Back in Dubsado, reload the Xero details page to refresh the account options.

Xero account codes can be up to 10 characters long.


Solution 2: Enable payments to the account in Xero

For an account to show up in the Dubsado dropdown, it also needs Enable payments to this account turned on in Xero.

  1. In Xero, go to Accounting ➔ Chart of accounts.

  2. Click the account to edit its details.

  3. Check Enable payments to this account.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Back in Dubsado, reload the Xero details page to refresh the account options.
