There are a few ways to create invoices before sending them out. Below, we'll walk you through creating an invoice from scratch, and using package templates to make the process even easier.

If you took a test drive of our proposal feature on our "Getting Started Guide", you'll notice that invoices are also automatically created when a proposal is submitted.

Creating an invoice from scratch

  1. Go to Projects to open the client's project.

  2. Click the Invoices tab.

  3. Click New Line Item.

  4. Fill in the invoice details.

  5. Click Add Item.

  6. Repeat as needed for each additional line item.

Use Package Templates for quick invoice creation

Packages are templates you can use in proposals, and they can also be quickly added when creating invoices directly. If you offer fixed-rate services like bundled packages, à la carte items, or add-ons, be sure to set each of them up as a package!

  1. Go to Templates ➔ Packages.

  2. Click Add Package.

  3. Click (Click to edit name) to add a title to your package.

  4. Click New Line Item. For additional guidance on line item details, see create an invoice.

After creating your package templates, head to the project where you’d like to create an invoice. Click on the Invoices tab, then click the Packages dropdown to select each package you want to include. A custom invoice can be built in just a few seconds!

Sending An Invoice

  1. Navigate to the Invoices tab in the project and confirm all line items are finalized.

  2. Click Send ➔ via Email.

  3. On the email draft window, you'll see the Invoice provided in the email body as a clickable button. You can manually edit this email on the fly, or select a canned email to use. Once you're happy with the email copy, click Send.

*What are Canned Emails?

You can create canned email templates for frequently used emails that you can quickly select from. To access and create canned emails, head to Templates ➔ Canned Emails.
