Import your client list

Moving to Dubsado from another system? The good news is you don't have to start from scratch or manually recreate every client profile. With a CSV import, you can bring your entire client list into Dubsado in minutes, so you can pick up right where you left off.

Before you import

To get the most accurate import and set yourself up for success, you'll want to organize your lists first. Think about the difference between your full contact list, and your active clients, as Dubsado treats these differently.

Separate your list into two CSV files:

  • Contacts – People you want to keep in your system but aren't actively working with right now (past clients, leads who didn't convert, referral partners, etc.)

  • Active clients – People you're currently servicing who need project folders where you can manage contracts, invoices, and ongoing communication

You'll import these lists separately, which gives you more control over how each group is set up in your account.

💡 Here’s a tip: make sure your CSV files use separate columns for “First name” and “Last name” fields since Dubsado uses separate fields for first and last name.

How to import via CSV

  1. Click Contacts in the left menu, then click Import CSV in the top-right corner.

  2. Upload your CSV file by selecting it from a folder or using drag and drop.

  3. Match your CSV column titles to Dubsado's fields using the dropdowns. This tells Dubsado where to put each piece of information—like making sure "Client first name" in your spreadsheet maps to "First name" in Dubsado.

  4. Click Import Contacts.

For contacts only: Just import as-is, no extra step needed.

For active clients: Before you click Import Contacts at the bottom of the modal, check the box for "Create a new project for each new contact." This automatically creates project folders for everyone on the list, so you can immediately start sending forms, tracking payments, and managing their work without any extra setup steps.

Once each import is complete, all your contact information will be searchable and organized in Dubsado, ready for you to manage moving forward.
