Preview how your invoices and packages look from your client's perspective before sending them. Once you've created an invoice or want to edit an invoice or package, you can open the public invoice link directly from the invoice detail view.
View an invoice as your client sees it
The fastest way to preview an invoice is from the invoice detail view, where you can open the same public link your contact will use.
Navigate to the Invoicing page and select the invoice, or open the project, click the Invoicing tab, and select the invoice.
In the invoice detail view, click the more options menu (...) in the invoice header.
Select View invoice.
The public invoice opens in a new browser tab. Each invoice has its own unique link, and the page shows the invoice exactly as the contact sees it, including any available payment options.
If you make changes to the invoice while the preview is open, refresh the preview tab to see the updates.
Share an invoice link
The invoice header also includes a separate share menu with options for sending the invoice link to your contact or saving a copy for yourself. The share menu is distinct from the more options menu where View invoice lives.
In the invoice detail view, click the share menu (share icon) to access these options:
Send — Opens the email composer with a pre-filled message containing the invoice link, addressed to the contact associated with the invoice.
Copy Link — Copies the public invoice URL to your clipboard so you can share it through another channel, like a text message or a different email client.
Download as PDF — Downloads a PDF version of the invoice to your computer.
Use Copy Link to quickly grab the invoice URL when you want to share it outside of Dubsado's email composer.
Preview a package on an invoice
Packages are applied as line items on an invoice, so previewing a package is the same as previewing any other invoice. To see how a package looks to your contact, add it to an invoice and open the public invoice link.
Navigate to the Invoicing page or open a test project's Invoicing tab.
Open an existing invoice or create a new one.
Add the package to the invoice as line items.
Click the more options menu (...) and select View invoice to see the result.
Package templates themselves are managed from Invoicing ➔ Packages.
FAQ
Why is the Pay Now button missing from the invoice preview?
Your contact cannot pay an invoice unless you have a payment processor connected. Navigate to Invoicing ➔ Settings ➔ Payment settings or Settings ➔ Payments to connect a payment processor and make sure the toggle to accept payments is turned on. The public invoice page only displays payment options when an active payment processor is connected.
Can I change the layout of the invoice?
No. The invoice uses a fixed layout for all workspaces and cannot be customized.
Why is my contact's name not appearing on the invoice?
Check your invoice appearance settings. Navigate to Invoicing ➔ Settings ➔ Invoice Appearance and confirm whether Client name or Company name is selected. If you've overridden the payment and invoice options for a specific project, check those settings as well.
How do I show the contact's address on the invoice?
First, confirm the address is saved on the contact record. Navigate to the Contacts page and open the contact to verify. Then check your settings at Invoicing ➔ Settings ➔ Invoice Appearance — selecting Client name shows the personal address, while Company name shows the shipping or company address.
Why is there text at the top or bottom of the invoice?
You may have invoice terms configured. Navigate to Invoicing ➔ Settings ➔ Invoice Appearance and scroll to Invoice terms to review or remove the text.
