If you would rather keep your hands on the keyboard, Dubsado has shortcuts for the things you do most: opening search, creating a project or invoice, starting a timer, and jumping to your calendar.
How the shortcuts work
Most Dubsado shortcuts are a two-key sequence rather than a key combination. Press N, release it, and then press a second key. You are not holding both keys down at once.
The second key needs to follow shortly after N. If you wait too long, the sequence resets and nothing happens, so just press N again and continue.
Shortcuts are ignored while your cursor is in a text field, a text area, a dropdown, or any other editable content. This means they never fire in the middle of something you are writing.
Think of N as "new." Almost every N shortcut creates something.
Opening search
Two shortcuts open global search from anywhere in Dubsado:
/ opens search
Cmd + K on Mac, or Ctrl + K on Windows, also opens search
Both work everywhere. The hint shown beside the search field is /, which is the shortest one to reach.
Creating things
These four shortcuts all open a creation flow directly, so you can start a new record without navigating to its page first.
N then P creates a new project
N then C creates a new contact
N then M opens a new message
N then I creates a new invoice
Jumping to a page
These shortcuts move you to a page rather than creating anything.
N then E opens your calendar
N then F opens your form templates
N then Z opens your flow templates
Z is worth committing to memory, since it is the one shortcut in this group you are unlikely to guess.
Timers and the notetaker
Two shortcuts open tools that live alongside search in the sidebar.
N then T opens the time tracker. This also expands the sidebar so the timer has somewhere to appear.
N then N opens the notetaker. It opens the widget so you can start from there, and does not begin recording on its own.
Inside a project or contact
One shortcut works on its own rather than as part of an N sequence.
Press I to toggle the details panel open or closed. It works while you are viewing a project or a contact, and does nothing on list pages or elsewhere in Dubsado.
Both I on its own and N then I exist, and they do not conflict. Once you press N, the next key you press belongs to that sequence, so N then I creates an invoice while I by itself toggles the panel.
Finding shortcuts as you work
You do not need to memorize this list to use shortcuts. Dubsado surfaces them where the action lives.
Hovering Projects, Contacts, or Messages in the sidebar reveals a create button, and its tooltip shows the matching shortcut. Tooltips elsewhere in Dubsado show keyboard hints the same way, including the details panel tooltip showing I.
FAQ
Do I hold N and the second key at the same time?
No. Press and release N, then press the second key. Press the second key soon after, or the sequence resets and you can start again.
Why isn't a shortcut working?
Your cursor is most likely in a text field. Shortcuts are deliberately ignored while you are typing so they never fire inside your writing. Click outside the field and try again.
Does Cmd + K still open search?
Yes. Cmd + K and Ctrl + K both open global search, as does /.
Why does I sometimes do nothing?
I on its own only toggles the details panel, and only while you are viewing a project or a contact. On other pages it has no effect.
Can I customize or turn off these shortcuts?
Shortcuts are always available and cannot be changed or turned off. They are ignored while you are typing, so they will not interfere with writing an email or filling in a field.
