If you added a signature field for yourself on a contract or sub-agreement, you can countersign the document after your client signs it. Dubsado auto-fills your name and signature from your user profile, so countersigning takes one click.
What countersigning means
Countersigning is the process of adding the business owner's signature to a document after the client has already signed it. This only applies when the contract or sub-agreement template includes a signature field designated for you (the owner). Both contracts and sub-agreements use the same countersign process.
Your signature is auto-filled from your user profile using your first and last name. To update the name or signature that appears when you countersign, go to Settings β Name & sign-in.
Countersigning a contract or sub-agreement
You can countersign from three main places in Dubsado: the Home page, directly from a project, or from the Forms page. Each entry point leads to the same result.
From the Home page
The Home page is the fastest way to find documents waiting on your signature.
Navigate to Home.
In the Waiting on you section, find the card for the contract or sub-agreement. Each card displays a Signature needed badge, a form type label (Contract or Sub-agreement), and the document title.
Click Countersign on the card.
From a project
There are a few ways to countersign from within the project.
Navigate to Projects and open the project.
In the Project info card, locate the contract or sub-agreement. It displays a Needs countersign status when it is waiting on your signature.
Countersign using one of two methods:
Click the Signature icon button next to the document title
Click the document title to open the dropdown menu, then select Countersign.
After you countersign, the chip changes to Countersigned.
You can also navigate to a project's Forms tab to countersign.
Navigate to Projects β choose the project β Forms.
Select the contract or sub-agreement from the list of forms applied to the project.
Click the Countersign button in the top right of the details view.
From the Forms page
The main Forms page lets you countersign from within the form detail panel.
Navigate to Forms in the sidebar, then select the contract or sub-agreement from the list of All Forms.
Alternatively, navigate to Forms β Action Required to see all forms that require your countersignature.
For either of the above methods, click Countersign when it appears in the details panel.
Suggestions card
The Suggestions card on the project overview also surfaces contracts and sub-agreements that need countersigning. Look for items labeled Signature needed and click Countersign directly from the card. This is a contextual shortcut rather than a dedicated entry point, but it works the same way.
FAQ
Will my client get a notification when I countersign?
No. Your client does not receive a notification when you countersign. The only automatic email your client receives is when they sign the document themselves.
Can I edit a contract after it has been signed?
No. After any signature is added (yours or the client's), the contract locks and can no longer be edited. This preserves it as a legally binding document. If you need to make changes, create a sub-agreement with the amendments for your client to sign.
Can I change my countersignature after signing?
No. Because the contract locks after any signature is added, there is no way to remove or change your countersignature. You have two options: remove the contract and have your client re-sign a new one, or add a sub-agreement to amend the original contract.
Can I countersign before my client signs?
Not from the dashboard. The Countersign button only appears after your client has completed and signed the document. If you need to sign before your client, you can open the contract's public link directly and sign there as a workaround.
