Need to point your client to a web page outside of Dubsado? You can add clickable text links, button links, and image links to any email you write in Dubsado.
Linking to pages outside of Dubsado
These link types work the same whether you're writing a new email, editing a custom or default template, or filling in a Send Email action in a flow.
This article is only for linking to pages outside of Dubsado. To link to a Dubsado form, contract, invoice, or scheduler, use smart field links instead, or the Project Links button in the email composer when you're sending from within a project.
Add a text link
To insert a regular hyperlink in the text of your email:
Highlight the text you want to link (optional; if you skip this step, you'll type the display text directly in the popover).
Click the Insert link button in the editor toolbar.
Enter the destination address in the URL field.
Enter the display text in the Text field.
Check Open in a new tab (optional).
Leave Button unchecked.
Click Save.
If you highlight text before clicking Insert link, that text automatically fills in the Text field for you.
Add a button link
A button link uses the same Insert link popover as a text link. Checking Button is what makes it render as a button instead of plain text.
Click the Insert link button in the editor toolbar.
Enter the destination address in the URL field.
Enter the button label in the Text field.
Check Open in a new tab (optional).
Check Button.
Click Save.
The button is styled to match your workspace. It's always centered and colored based on your brand color from Settings ➔ Styling.
Add an image link
Making an image in your email clickable takes two steps: you insert the image, then you link it. Each step uses a different toolbar.
Click the Insert image button in the editor toolbar.
In the popover, either drag a file into the Upload Image area or paste a URL into the Image URL field, then click Insert Image.
Click the image you just inserted to select it. Its own toolbar appears.
Click Insert Link in the image's toolbar.
Enter the destination address and confirm.
Once an image is linked, selecting it again shows Open Link, Edit Link, and Unlink controls instead.
Inserting an image and linking it use two different toolbars: the Insert image button in the editor toolbar adds the image, while the image's own toolbar, which appears when you click the image, is where you add the link.
Since you can't embed a video directly in an email, this is a handy way to fake one. Take a screenshot that looks like a video thumbnail with a play button, then link the image to wherever the video is actually hosted.
Images you upload here are capped at 8 MB. If your image is larger, host it elsewhere and paste the Image URL instead of uploading the file.
Editing or removing a link
Click on (or place your cursor inside) any text or button link, and a floating toolbar appears with three controls: Edit link, Open link, and Remove link.
Edit link reopens the Insert link popover, pre-filled with the link's current URL, text, new-tab setting, and Button status. You can use this to switch a text link into a button, or a button back into a text link, just by toggling Button and saving again.
Open link opens the destination in a new browser tab so you can double-check it.
Remove link strips the hyperlink but keeps the text in place.
For image links, click the image to select it, then use Edit Link, Open Link, or Unlink in its toolbar.
FAQ
Can I link to a Dubsado form, contract, invoice, or scheduler this way?
No. External hyperlinks are only for pages outside of Dubsado. To link to a Dubsado form, contract, invoice, or scheduler, use smart field links, or the Project Links button in the email composer when you're sending from within a project.
Why is my image only letting me upload up to 8 MB?
The image uploader in the email editor caps files at 8 MB. If your image is larger, host it elsewhere and use the Image URL field instead of uploading it directly.
How do I turn a text link into a button, or a button back into a text link?
Click the link, choose Edit link, then check or uncheck Button in the popover and click Save.
