Connecting with Zapier

Connect Dubsado to Zapier and start automating tasks across thousands of other apps.

Written by Trevor

Zapier is an online automation tool that connects Dubsado to thousands of other apps, like Trello, Asana, and Mailchimp, so you can automate repetitive tasks without any code. This article walks you through connecting your Dubsado account to Zapier.

Generate a Dubsado API key

You'll need a Zapier account before you can connect it to Dubsado. If you don't have one yet, sign up for Zapier first. Once you have an account, generate an API key in Dubsado to authorize the connection.

Connecting with Zapier requires the Premier plan. Trial accounts include Premier features, so you can set this up during your trial. Only Admins and Owners can access the Third party connections settings.

  1. Navigate to Settings ➔ Third party connections.

  2. On the Zapier card, enter a name for the key in the API key name field (for example, "Trello Zap" or "Mailchimp"). This field is required, and the Generate API key button stays disabled until you enter a name.

  3. Click Generate API key.

  4. Click Copy to copy the new key from the highlighted panel before you leave the page.

Your API key is shown only once, right after you generate it. Copy it before you leave the page. Treat it like a password, since anyone with the key can access your Dubsado data. If you lose it, delete the key and generate a new one, then update the connection in Zapier with the new key.

Every key you generate is listed in a table below, showing its Name and Date created. Select the trash icon next to a key to delete it.

Connect Dubsado in Zapier

With your API key copied, switch over to Zapier to finish the connection.

  1. Open Zapier and, from the left sidebar, click My Apps.

  2. In the search bar, type Dubsado. Dubsado appears as an available connection.

  3. Next to the Dubsado connection, click Connect.

  4. When prompted for an API key, paste the key you copied from Dubsado.

  5. Click Yes, Continue to Dubsado.

Confirming the connection

Once connected, Dubsado appears under the My Apps tab in Zapier. Click the ellipses (…) next to the Dubsado connection, then select Test connection to confirm it's working.

What is Zapier?

With Zapier, you can build automated workflows called Zaps that connect Dubsado to other apps. Every Zap has two parts: a trigger and an action.

A trigger is the event that starts the Zap. Dubsado's New Lead trigger, for example, fires when a new project with a lead status is created, pulling in the client's name, email, and other mapped information. The action is what happens next in the other app: pairing the New Lead trigger with Trello's Create Card action automatically adds a new Trello card with the client's contact details every time a lead comes in.

FAQ

Can I generate more than one API key?

Yes. You can generate multiple API keys, each with its own name and creation date, and delete any of them from the keys table under Settings ➔ Third party connections.
