Downgrade to the Starter plan

A few important things to know before downgrading, plus how to change your plan.

Written by Trevor

Need something simpler for running your business? You can downgrade to the Starter plan at any time, and the change takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle.

Before you downgrade

Your downgrade takes effect on your next billing cycle, so you keep your Premier access until then. Once it takes effect, you lose access to several features, so it's worth reviewing what changes before you compare the plans and confirm the switch.

Flows

All flows pause when the downgrade takes effect. If you upgrade to Premier again later, you'll need to unpause each flow individually. There's no way to unpause them in bulk.

Any flow elements already on your lead capture forms stay visible and work like regular dropdown fields. You can still see your clients' selections, but no flows start automatically while you're on Starter.

Scheduling

All schedulers deactivate and stop accepting client submissions. This includes schedulers shared by link, embedded on a website, or sent through a project. Reminders for appointments already booked continue to send as scheduled.

You can still add fixed appointments to your calendar manually. Fixed appointments don't send reminders or notifications to clients.

Public proposals

Public proposals (proposals shared outside a project, similar to lead capture forms) deactivate and stop accepting submissions. This only affects proposals you haven't applied to a project, such as ones embedded on your website.

Public proposal templates can still be used as regular proposals sent through a project, and you can continue sending proposals to clients manually by applying them to a project.

Multiple active lead capture forms

Only one lead capture form can stay active for clients to fill out. You'll choose which one during the downgrade, and you can change your selection later. If you have a lead capture form embedded on your website, select that one to avoid disruptions.

All other lead capture forms deactivate and stop accepting submissions.

Video conferencing

Video conferencing is tied to scheduling, so you lose access to it once you downgrade.

Time tracking

Any time trackers still actively running when the downgrade takes effect are lost. Time you already tracked and saved isn't lost. You can still apply it to an invoice from inside a project using the Add time tracking control on the invoice editor.

Project sources and source tracking

You lose access to your existing project source data, and you can't filter projects by project source while on Starter.

Any existing project tracking elements on your lead capture forms stay visible and work like regular dropdown fields. You can still see your clients' selections, but no project source tags get applied to projects while you're on the Starter plan.

Bookkeeping integrations (QuickBooks and Xero)

Connected QuickBooks or Xero integrations disconnect when the downgrade takes effect. You don't lose any data that was already synced to QuickBooks or Xero before the disconnect.

Zapier

Zaps that use the Dubsado integration hit errors or stop running once you're on the Starter plan.

Downgrading your plan

You can manage your plan from Settings ➔ Billing. Only the workspace owner can access billing.

  1. Go to Settings ➔ Billing.

  2. On your primary workspace, click Manage, then select Change plan.

  3. In the Change plan dialog, select the Starter tab, then choose the Annual or Monthly plan card.

  4. Review the list of features the Starter plan doesn't include. If prompted, select a lead capture form to keep active for each workspace. You can change this later.

  5. Click Confirm.

  6. Confirm your payment information is correct.

  7. Click Update subscription.

You keep your Premier access until your billing cycle ends, and you're charged the Starter rate starting on your next billing date.

Downgrading your primary workspace downgrades every additional workspace on your account too. Plans can't be mixed across workspaces, so all of your workspaces move to Starter together.

Changed your mind? Cancel a scheduled downgrade

If you have a downgrade scheduled, the Billing page shows a note that your plan will change on your next billing cycle. You can cancel it yourself at any point before that date.

  1. Go to Settings ➔ Billing.

  2. Click Manage on the workspace with the scheduled downgrade, then select Cancel plan change.

  3. In the Cancel subscription update? dialog, click Cancel update to keep your current Premier plan, or Keep update to leave the downgrade scheduled.

Canceling the update keeps your current Premier pricing, since the downgrade never takes effect and nothing about your subscription changes.

FAQ

If I change my mind after downgrading, can I keep my current Premier pricing?

Yes, as long as you cancel the scheduled downgrade before it takes effect, using the steps above. Because the downgrade never takes effect, your subscription stays on Premier at your current rate.

If your downgrade has already taken effect, you can still upgrade again, just at current pricing.

If I created scheduler and flow templates, will I lose access to them after downgrading?

You won't be able to use your scheduler and flow templates while you're on the Starter plan, but they aren't deleted. They'll be waiting for you if you upgrade again.

What does it mean that my lead captures, public proposals, and schedulers will deactivate?

Clients can still view these pages if you shared a link or embedded them on your website, but they can't submit them. An error message directs clients to contact you directly instead.

Will I still be able to see my project flows after downgrading?

No. The Flows tab is no longer available in your projects once the downgrade takes effect, and you can't view flow templates or flows already applied to projects.

Will my additional workspaces downgrade automatically?

Yes. All additional workspaces follow the plan on your primary workspace, so downgrading your primary workspace automatically downgrades the rest. There's no pricing difference between Premier and Starter for additional workspaces, and plans can't be mixed across workspaces.
