If connecting your Microsoft email to Dubsado throws an error, or your clients' replies aren't coming through, a few targeted fixes will usually clear it up. Start by connecting with the Continue with Microsoft button. It's the recommended, most reliable way to connect Outlook, Office 365, Hotmail, and Live accounts.
Start here: connect with Microsoft
Most Microsoft connection issues come down to the same root cause: using SMTP to connect a Microsoft account instead of the built-in Microsoft sign-in. Before troubleshooting anything else, make sure you're connecting the right way.
Navigate to Settings ➔ Emails, or open Messages ➔ Settings. Both take you to the same Emails page.
In the Connect an account section, click Continue with Microsoft.
If Continue with Microsoft throws an error, the fix is usually on the Microsoft side of things (like admin consent or a forwarding policy, covered below) rather than switching to SMTP. SMTP isn't a recommended or reliable way to connect a Microsoft account, so if you've been trying to connect with SMTP, that's likely the source of your trouble. Switch to Continue with Microsoft first.
Microsoft accounts include Outlook, Office 365, Hotmail, and Live. Use Continue with Microsoft for all of them.
GoDaddy-hosted Microsoft email
If your Microsoft mailbox was purchased through GoDaddy and Continue with Microsoft won't connect, you may as well try connecting using SMTP as a fallback:
Click Connect with SMTP, the text link under the connection buttons.
Select GoDaddy from the provider dropdown.
Enter your GoDaddy email address under Username and your email password (or an app password) under Password/ App password.
Click Connect.
Selecting GoDaddy gives you a simplified form with no server name, port, or SSL fields to fill in. If the SMTP connection runs into trouble, see SMTP troubleshooting.
SMTP isn't a recommended or reliable connection method for Microsoft email. Only use it as a last resort if Continue with Microsoft fails for a GoDaddy-hosted mailbox.
"Incorrect password" error with two-step verification
If you've enabled two-step verification on your Microsoft account, entering your normal password to connect can fail even though the password is correct. Connecting with Continue with Microsoft avoids this entirely, since it doesn't ask for a password at all.
If you still need to fall back to SMTP, Microsoft's instructions for creating an app password walk you through generating one to use in place of your regular password. Treat this as a fallback path, not the recommended setup.
If you've enabled two-step verification on your Microsoft account, connecting with Continue with Microsoft avoids the app-password requirement entirely.
Can't receive incoming emails (Exchange Online / Microsoft 365)
If you use Exchange Online or Microsoft 365, client replies may not reach Dubsado until you adjust your outbound spam filter settings to allow forwarding. This applies to accounts that aren't reading your inbox directly through Continue with Microsoft. If you connected with Microsoft and turned on inbox access, Dubsado pulls emails automatically and you won't see a forwarding field to set up in the first place.
These Microsoft admin steps require administrator access. If you don't have it, contact your Microsoft administrator before continuing.
Log in to your Microsoft account at security.microsoft.com. If you don't have access, contact your administrator first.
Click Policies & rules.
Click Threat policies.
Click Anti-spam.
Click Anti-spam outbound policy (Default). A sidebar appears.
Scroll down and click Edit protection settings.
Under the Forwarding rules dropdown, select the option to turn forwarding On (On - Forwarding is Enabled).
Click Save.
If a Your organization settings need to be updated. Do you want to continue? popup appears, click Yes, then complete these additional steps:
Go to admin.microsoft.com and click Users ➔ Active users.
Select the user. A sidebar appears.
Click the Mail tab.
Click Manage email forwarding.
Check Forward all emails sent to this mailbox.
Under the forwarding email address field, paste your Brand email address, found in Dubsado under Settings ➔ Emails (or Messages ➔ Settings) in the Incoming emails section. Use the copy button next to the read-only field to grab it.
Click Save changes.
FAQ
Should I connect my Microsoft email with SMTP?
No, use Continue with Microsoft instead. SMTP isn't a recommended or reliable way to connect a Microsoft account, and OAuth already covers Outlook, Office 365, Hotmail, and Live.
I'm using two-step verification and getting an "incorrect password" error. What do I do?
Connect with Continue with Microsoft instead of entering a password. Since it doesn't rely on a password at all, two-step verification and app passwords aren't a factor.
My clients' replies aren't showing up in Dubsado. How do I fix it?
If you're on Exchange Online or Microsoft 365, enable outbound forwarding in your anti-spam policy and forward to your Dubsado Brand email address, found under Settings ➔ Emails. This requires administrator access on your Microsoft account.
