Add an external link to a client portal

Add an outside link, like a photo gallery or Dropbox folder, to a project so your client can access it from their client portal.

Add outside links to a project so your clients can reach them from their client portal at any time. This is perfect for sharing a photo gallery, a Dropbox folder, social media, or any other web resource.

Add an external link to a project

Open a project (or a contact) and click the Forms tab.

  1. Click Add a Form.

  2. Choose the Link form type. If the Easy Form Creation Tool appears first, click Start from scratch instead to see the form type options. Link forms redirect your client to an external website or resource when they're accessed.

  3. In the Create External Link dialog, enter a Title and a URL for the link.

  4. Click Create.

You don't need to type "https://" in the URL field. Dubsado adds it for you automatically if you leave it off.

Once you create the link, it appears in the project's Forms tab as a form-type item.

Applying the link to the client portal

To make the link visible in the client portal, open it from the Forms tab and click Share ➔ Apply to portal. This is the same action you'd use to apply a form to the portal.

Apply to portal appears under Share only while the link hasn't been sent and lives inside a project. Since a link you create this way already lives inside the project, the option is available as soon as you create it.

Managing an existing link

Once a link exists in a project's Forms tab, you can update or remove it from its detail view.

Editing a link

  1. Open the link from the Forms tab.

  2. Click the Edit external link icon (pencil).

  3. In the Edit External Link dialog, update the Title or URL.

  4. Click Update.

Removing a link

  1. Open the link from the Forms tab.

  2. Click the More options menu (three dots).

  3. Click Delete.

  4. In the Delete form confirmation dialog, click Delete to confirm.

Removing a link deletes it from both the project and the client portal.

What your client sees

In the client portal, your client clicks the Projects tab, selects the project, and scrolls down to Documents, where the link appears and is clickable.

FAQ

Can I show external links on the client portal's home page?

No. External links can only be added to individual projects, so they show up within that project in the portal, not on the portal's home page.
