Finance reports

Where to find Finance reports and what each number on the page means.

Written by Trevor

Finance reports show you how money is moving through your business: what you have earned, what is still owed, and how revenue compares to expenses over any period you choose.

Finding Finance reports

Navigate to Insights ➔ Finance reports to open the page.

Access is based on your role. Finance reports are available to Owners, Admins, and Accountants.

If you do not see Insights in the sidebar, your role may not include access to reports. Your workspace owner can check your permissions.

Setting your date range

Use the date range control in the page header to choose the period you want to look at. Revenue, Expenses, and Net profit all update to match, so set this first and those figures follow.

The page opens on Last 30 days. You can choose one of the preset ranges or set a custom start and end date.

Amount remaining is the one figure the date range does not affect. It always covers all of your open invoices, whatever period you have selected.

What the numbers mean

The Overview section at the top of the page summarizes four figures for your selected date range.

Revenue

The total income recorded across the selected period.

Amount remaining

The total still outstanding across your open invoices. Unlike the other three figures, this one ignores your selected date range and covers every open invoice, which is why the card reads Across all open invoices (any date).

Click this figure to open the invoices it covers, so you can see exactly what is still owed and chase anything that needs attention.

Expenses

The total expenses recorded across the selected period.

Net profit

Your revenue minus your expenses for the period. The card also shows your profit margin as a percentage, or No revenue yet when there is no revenue recorded in the range.

Chart of accounts on this page

Below the overview, a Chart of accounts section breaks your money down by category so you can see where it is coming from and going to.

It highlights your Top revenue categories and Top expense categories for the selected period. Click View all to open the full Chart of accounts page, where every category is listed and you can add or edit them.

The Finance reports widget on your Home page

A Finance reports widget also appears on your Home page as a quick summary. It is useful for a glance at where things stand, and you can show, hide, and rearrange it along with your other Home widgets.

Open the full Finance reports page whenever you need the complete picture, want to change the date range, or want to click through to the underlying invoices.

FAQ

Why can't I see Insights or Finance reports?

Access to reports is based on your role. Finance reports are available to Owners, Admins, and Accountants. Ask your workspace owner to check your permissions if you think you should have access.

Why is Amount remaining different from Revenue?

They measure different things, and they do not cover the same period. Revenue is income already recorded in your selected date range. Amount remaining is what is still outstanding across every open invoice regardless of date, so it looks ahead at money you have not collected yet and does not change when you adjust the date range.

Why is my net profit negative?

Net profit is revenue minus expenses for the period you selected. If your expenses exceed your revenue in that range, the figure is negative. Widening the date range often gives a more representative picture.

How do I see which invoices make up Amount remaining?

Click the Amount remaining figure. Dubsado opens the open invoices behind that total so you can review them individually.

Can I change what counts as revenue or an expense?

Yes. Revenue and expenses are grouped by the income and expense categories you set up, which you manage from the Chart of accounts page.
