Dubsado uses third-party payment processors to take payments from your clients securely and makes the funds available to deposit into your bank account.

In this article:

Connect a payment processor

  1. Go to Settings >> Receive Money.

  2. If prompted, enter your Base country and Currency to receive.

    • If you don’t see your country or currency listed, then Dubsado doesn’t support that currency. However, you can still display your preferred currency by overriding the symbol under Settings >> International settings.

  3. Click Save.

  4. Choose your preferred payment processor (Stripe, Square, or PayPal).

Heads up! You can only connect Stripe or Square, not both. You can connect PayPal on its own or in addition to Stripe or Square.

Differences between Stripe, Square, and PayPal

Dubsado integrates with Stripe, Square, and PayPal. For a comparison of which is best for you, please see the table below:

Stripe integration limits:

Square integration limits:

  • Due to Square’s integration, when you view a payment on Square, you won’t see the client name and email address associated with the payment.

  • In-person payments with a card reader won’t automatically apply to a Dubsado invoice so you must manually apply the payment.

PayPal integration limits:

  • PayPal is not compatible with autopay. For more information, please see our autopay enrollment settings.

  • Dubsado cannot help you recover payments if you enter an incorrect email address and funds go to the wrong account.

Payment processing fees

Payment fees depend entirely on your payment processor. Dubsado does not collect any additional fees on top of the payment processor fees!

Please review Stripe, Square, and PayPal’s current fees for the most up-to-date information:

Heads up! It is not possible to pass the processing fees onto the client.

Autopay limits

Disconnecting a payment processor stops autopay on both payment plans and recurring invoices!

The payment processors have the following autopay limits:

  • Stripe: Autopay is compatible with credit cards only

  • Square: Autopay is compatible with credit cards only

  • PayPal: Not compatible with autopay

Bank transfer option for non-US banks

If you’re unable to accept credit cards and you don’t have a United States bank account, the alternative is to include payment instructions directly in your Dubsado invoices:

  1. Go to Settings >> Receive money.

  2. Click on the Invoices tab.

  3. Click Edit Terms.

  4. Add payment instructions in the Top (header) or Bottom (footer) columns.

  5. Click Save.

Client-facing invoice

After connecting a processor to your Dubsado account, a Pay Now button will appear on invoices. Your clients can select a payment method to complete the payment!

FAQ

Do you plan on integrating with Venmo, Zelle, Klarna, Wise, or any other type of payment processor?

Dubsado only integrates with Stripe, Square, or PayPal. We do not plan on integrating with other payment processors at this time.

Does Dubsado take any fees from each payment?

Not at all! The only fees you have when using Dubsado are the processing fees that each payment processor charges.

Is there a way to not have any processing fees?

No. No one likes fees, but processing fees are a standard part of doing business that protects you and each of your transactions.

Can I pass the processing fees to the client to pay?

No. In some states, it is actually illegal to do so.

How long does it take for my money to transfer to my account?

Transfer times depend entirely on your payment processor. If you notice long transfer times, we recommend you contact Stripe, Square, or PayPal directly.

What if I can't use any of the supported payment processors?

You can still use Dubsado without connecting a payment processor by manually recording payments to an invoice.

Is my client's credit card information stored in Dubsado?

No. Dubsado never comes into contact with your client's payment information or funds. All transactions are handled securely by the payment processor.

Where can I view past transactions in Dubsado?

View transactions under Reporting >> Transactions.
